QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Short answers to the questions we get most often before a project kicks off.

Who owns the IP for designs you produce?

+

You do. All schematics, layout files, firmware, and mechanical files produced under an engagement are transferred to the client on final delivery and payment. We don't retain rights to client designs.

Do you sign NDAs before initial discussions?

+

Yes. NDAs are standard practice. We're happy to sign yours, or send ours over before any project specifics are shared.

What's a typical timeline for a PCB design?

+

A 2-to-4-layer board with moderate complexity runs roughly 3–6 weeks from kickoff to DFM-ready Gerbers. Multi-layer BGA boards or designs with controlled impedance and HDI typically run 6–10 weeks. Firmware and enclosure work runs in parallel.

How do you price engagements?

+

Fixed-fee per defined deliverable for most projects, after a scoping call. Hourly is available for open-ended review or consultation work. Manufacturing and component costs are billed at cost with no markup.

Which design tools do you use?

+

Altium Designer is our primary tool. We also work in KiCad, EasyEDA, and Eagle when projects require it. We can deliver source files in whichever format you use internally.

Can you handle manufacturing and assembly?

+

Yes. We manage fabrication and turnkey SMT/THT assembly through JLCPCB, PCBWay, and LCSC — from 5-unit prototype runs through production volumes.

Do you take on review-only engagements?

+

Yes. A DFM/DFA audit of an existing design is available as a standalone engagement — no full redesign required.

Where are you based, and who do you work with?

+

Neat Labs LLC is US-registered in Sheridan, Wyoming. We primarily work with companies in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, and Germany.
